You know the IGA, every town has one. Grandma Doyle used to send me to the one at 91st and California whenever they had sales.
Right down the block from my house is a neat little town square that kind of reminds you of Mayberry. It has most everything you need:
• IGA grocery store
• old tyme drug store
• barber shop
• women’s salon
• The Little Deli
On my way for lunch yesterday I noticed (what appeared to be) cranes for building. After ordering a quick sammie I found out that a film crew was using them to shoot scenes for Friday Night Lights. I don’t watch the show, but it’s filmed all over Austin.
Wonder how much they paid to take over the IGA for a day…

We live a few blocks away and were walking the dogs and kids when they filmed the “tornado” and blasted out all the fake windows of the IGA. Didn’t see it but heard it and it sounded like they dropped a truck off the tops of one of those cranes. (the cranes were holding up rain machines) Wife and I debated for a bit as to how much it cost them to “rent” the center. The center’s tenants all rent so I wonder if they had to pay the landlord too?

I bet they did (have to rent the whole center). I’ve never used that auto repair place (I hear they are good), but that would make for one fine coffee / beer / wine / food / live music venue.
Austin has many, but walking distance from the house makes the idea appealing to me.
The wife am I walk past that repair shop about 4 times a week and at least 50% of the time one of says something like “that would make for an awesome beer / wine / food / live music venue…the corner lot across the street could be turned into a parking lot for it.
Side note, did you ever see the pig that use to live at the rent house once on that lot?
A pig? Damn, I missed that one. We’ve only been here for two years.
I do have a friend who has two ducks and two chickens roaming in her back yard…
