Texas. FIGHT!
We moved here in January of ’06, just in time to catch UT win the National Championship. It was no big deal to us, we’re not really UT fans. But I’ve always wanted to catch a game in the stadium I see regularly on bike rides.
So when a friend (Dan Brotman) asked me to the TCU vs UT game this last weekend, I jumped. We started the day with a typical college tailgate. Footballs flying. Washers (no baggo). Beer.
But this was my first tailgate with slow-cooked brisket, loud bands, 95ยบ heat, full sun and co-eds wearing mini skirts and cowboy boots.
TCU came out strong and was up 10-nil at the half. But UT reclaimed their winning ways and pulled out a 34-13 victory.
Dan has great seats, and when you need the instant replay, you can’t miss it on the “Godzillatron”. Incredible the size of that thing.
Look, there’s BEVO.

Maybe it’s all the family connections, but UT-TCU is on my must-do list before I die. Probably twice — once at each stadium. It’s a tough call, though — I grew up with “Hook ‘em Horns,” but you gotta’ love the fighting Frogs!!!!
If you ever make it down here, we’ve got a room with your name on it. Might be a nice riding/racing/football game weekend idea for future consideration.
Joe,
There is nothing like a UT game live. I went and saw them beat Baylor when it secured their place in the Cotton Bowl and I had the distinct pleasure of throwing cotton in the air (the real thing – not the balls) and charging the field. It is the most electric, loud experience. The best was BEVO – the Baylor mascots were these sweet little bears that played on a jungle gym and went down a slide. BEVO, on the other hand, comes over to to our side of the field and takes a giant, runny, dump. There was a guy in a cowboy suit who’s job it was to clean it up. Hook ‘em horns!!
LOL, ewwwww Bevo. How dare ye.
Looking forward to seeing you at years end.
