You have a blog?

by Joe Doyle on April 18, 2009

Yes, I do. Though my posts are few and far between these days.

See I’ve been working. Hard. And living. Hard. Lots of hard.

Like the paintin’ of the eaves and fascia on my house. That was hard. And long. And, well, it never is as easy as you think. Ours need more caulk than we thought, and we always seemed to find some new abnormality when we turned the corner - rotted wood, etc.

I say “we” because my step-dad, Bob, came down from Michigan to help me. I’d still be on my new ladder today (and not writing this) if it wasn’t for Dad. I’m eternally grateful. (Thanks again, Pop)

Here’s what it looked like before. The color was almost a slightly-darker match for the siding with little contrast. It was peeling in many places and in others it was a skim coat with bare wood showing.

We upgraded to a darker look with actual color (no grey, that’s mostly brown). It provided a whole new look to the house. We thought about going lighter, but I wanted something to frame it in since the main color is a light brownish/green.

The garage was never painted, so I mated it to the Hardieplank siding, which also happened to be the same color as the eaves and fascia (at least something made it a little easier). Sherwin-Williams on Burnet matched the color exact based on a paint chip I peeled off, I was really impressed.

Next up - a complete kitchen remodel (we’re paying for that) and lots of landscaping (all on me).

Expect long delays…
