One banana, two banana, three banana four

Remember the Banana Splits?

Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper and Snork were on Channel 32 at lunchtime when I was a kid. I loved that show - those crazy characters driving around really cool amphibious 6-wheel buggies and having fun (apparently in Cincinnati, of all places). Bingo was definitely my favorite.

As the parents who read this blog can attest, you often find yourself making up songs or singing whacky ones just to entertain the kids. The Banana Splits theme is no exception.

When we sing it, PJ straddles my legs closest to my torso, and Katie climbs on behind him. We hop a bit during the lines that I make up, but when we get to the refrain, it’s a generous amount of swinging back and forth. Today Katie even repeated “Tra la la la la la”.

I like to think the kids love the Banana Splits shenanigans more than anything, but a close second is the horse-ride-inspired “Bonanza” theme song. PJ is definitely a little Hoss.

Need to get this stuff on video. Say, what crazy songs do you sing to kids? Got a favorite Banana Split?

Happy Friday, y’all.

Huh, I don’t know why that one hasn’t made it into the repertoire. I know it so well. Last night was the Willie Wonka Family Guy episode. Love that one.

what about our original snot river?
’snot river….running down my nose, dripping on my toes, now everybody knows…. SNOT RIVER…. la la la la la la

you just gotta sing that to PJ and Katie. At 8, Luke now sings that to himself when he needs a kleenex.

Snot river is an all-time classic, that’s for sure. We sing it to them when they are snotty for sure.

PJ drools. Not just because he’s getting teeth - he just drools all the freaking time. Need to come up with something for that. We already call him Drooly McDroolstein.

Tell my friend Luke I say hey.
