Guess the names and win something cool*

by Joe Doyle on April 9, 2007

Everyone asks, “have you decided on names?”

Tough one – it really is. A lifetime of living with something that someone gave you, and you didn’t even ask for it. Talk about pressure.

We’re mulling over names, but we’ll wait until we meet the twins to gauge their personality and good looks before deciding. Our short list (five of each) is derived from the names below.

How to win:
the person who correctly guesses the names from the lists will get a cool prize. If you get one correct and one close, that is a winner, too. We’ll be the final judges – and you have to wait until after they’re born to collect.

Feel free to tell us which ones you really like. But since all of these names are in the runnin’, please don’t tell us if one doesn’t suit your refined tastes! Thanks.

OK, I like Caitlin and Brendan. There’s several others that I really like to, but those are my favorites. You’re right that it’s difficult to pick a name that a child will have for their whole life. Regardless of what you pick, you son probably won’t care and at some point your daughter will probably want to change it.

It doesn’t seem possible that these two children will be with us soon. I imagine you and especially Stacey might disagree with my assessment of time, but there’s sure not much of it left. I’m getting really excited again.

Love, Aunt Pam

Ok so I was going to do this many different ways! I was going to really try to think about what you guys might like but I decided to pick what I liked and hope that I am on the money!

Finn and Rauri

David likes Colin and Cassidy–Very CC -twin like!

I can’t wait!

So why didnt Payton make the list. Strong name, strong arm. I like the Irish names. I think Payton may be Irish. I particularly like Frank, a good solid name, it plays a prominant role in Bingham family history. I would have to go with it as a middle name. Looking at the list, I have got to go with NEIL & CASSIDY. Ginsburg, Kesey, Tom Wolfe, Kerouac, and Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, the literary connections are huge.
So what about Lance and Lena? Oh man, dont get me started. I am going with my first choice. Remember, there is no pressure here to choose the right name. We will love little Ichabod and Rennie or whoever they are, we allready do. But they do have to have a name. We leave this up to you. Love and kisses, Uncle FRANK

I think…after looking at all the names…I’m thinking Riley and Finn. Good Irish names for a nice Jewish family!

Did you ever think about naming your son Yanzy?

5 Cacciabondo 04.12.07 at 10:29 am

After giving this absolutely no thought at all, i’ve decided to go with Olivia and Liam. i don’t know why, but i like it. Although i am partial to Aislin, Caitlin, Cassidy, Claire ,Ella, Ellie, Emily, Helen, Julie, Katherine, Kathleen, Kyla, Lila, Lili, Rauri, Riley, Sadie and sometimes Sally, i think Olivia is a beautiful name. The only other name on the boy’s list i liked was Brendan, Ciaran, Colin, Daniel, Eamon, Emmitt, Finn, Frank, Hugh, Kevin, Michael, Nathan, Neil, Oliver, Patrick, Rory, Seamus, Sean and Tomas.

Good luck, push hard and enjoy the ride.

Yours truly,

erwin m. fletcher

p.s. have a nice day!

Ha, these are great. Keep em coming. I know Karen Bingham mentioned Patrick and Katherine.

Anyone else? Don’t be shy.

Ok, from your names I would pick Lila & Frank but I think YOU will pick Sadie & Oliver.

Since I may never have a kid, you can use some of my names - how about Mika & Lars for some nice euro-flava? Nina & Dax?

Or why not go Biblical with Esther & Isaac? Daniel (on your list) is a really good Biblical name too. Have you ever read Daniel? He was highly esteemed by God… and quite possibly a vegetarian. My kinda guy! And of course Michael is an archangel and protector of the Israelites… who spoke with Daniel! You could mix it up and name them Michael & Daniel - both names can be either gender.

In hilariously-related news, you very nearly put together the complete name of one of my South Sider ex-boyfriends among the list of the possible boy names… in order nonetheless!

All good names my pic are Kathleen and Colin good sounding names, all go good with Doyle. How about Colin Michael Doyle,Emily Kathleen Doyle.I hope we don’t get too many billy bobs or sally joanns for middle names?

Katherine is surely my first choice for the new little girl. For the boy I like Sean the best. Any names are just fine except for Braughn and Newark. (Ha Ha).

OK, I’m shooting for Kevin for the boy. I like them all, but Kevin Doyle sounds like a very important person! For the girl, I opt for Cassidy Doyle, sounds like an individual well schooled in the fine things in life. You have a lot of very good choices, and some have family history. Making the final choice will not be easy, but then it shouldn’t be.

Picks from Dad and Karen:

Karen picks Emily and Daniel

Dad picks Claire and Oliver –based on the character from Love Story. He also likes Sean.

Claire and Colin

guess what? my adopted Cap is a Sox fan! We got Brett Jensen, relief pitcher from U of Nebraska by way of Iowa. 6′7″, 180 lbs. My God, he’s darling.

13 Joe Doyle 04.17.07 at 10:43 am

These are all perfect.

Amy - as you know, South Siders can be so typical! I guess we just like how some of those Irish names go with the last name.

Mel - glad to see you have a smart ballplayer under your roof. 6′7″, 180lbs… wow. He’s skinny! I hope he pitches well.

Thanks to all who participated. Polls remain open until b-day.

14 Ken 04.18.07 at 3:03 pm

I’m likin Lila & Sadie for girl.

I might go Ciaran, but you are guaranteed never to have your child’s name spelled correctly. Maybe Tomas or Emmitt. Frank is a good strong name too.

Final pics? Lila & Tomas

Not Rory. Anything but Rory. My neighbor’s kid is named Rory, and he’s one of those can’t-quite-figure-out-the-goatee, low pants-wearin’, smokin’-dope-in-the-garage, slack-jawed, third-trip-to-rehab, baseball-cap-worn-at-two-o’clock-instead-of-twelve, mush-mouthed, animal-torturin’, inbred, can’t-decide-between-rap-or-metal-so-I-guess-I’ll-just-blast-them-both-at-the-same-time, allergic-to-work, chromosomally-deficient, special needs-havin’ twits.

You know the type.

How about Veronica and Ronald? That way you can just shout “RONNIE! GET DOWN HERE BEFORE I HIDE YOU GODD!” and get them both to come running without the hassle of a second name.

16 Joe Doyle 04.19.07 at 4:25 pm

Or, perhaps Josie and Joe 3. Henry and Henrietta? Marion and Marian?

17 Hose A 04.20.07 at 12:26 am

OK, before I looked at the list, I would have bet that the name of the next generation of Doyle’s would have been Kelly Marie and Joseph Patrick, but looking at the list of choices, I see that this is not possible. Still not sure why Stacey Ann is not part of the list, but I am sure that Joe already went through a battle similar to that.

I would have loved to see Seosamh as a choice, but alas no.

My pick for the next beloved Doyle’s would be Eamon Finn and Emily Ellie Doyle.

But no matter what the names, I am eagerly looking forward to two healthy, beautiful (after Stacey) future cyclists!!!

18 Hose A 04.20.07 at 12:30 am

Oh, and another thing…a 6′7″ 180lbs guy at Mel’s house? Come on Mel, cook the poor lad a decent meal!!

19 eirk w 04.23.07 at 12:25 pm

man the name thing is tough….. though i think i’ll pull for Claire for a girl and Rory for a boy. why? I’ve know several Claires and all have been beautiful, interesting and intelligent. one of them even kissed me! Rory…. well i only know one which is a good thing these days where every one seems to be on the same name wagon. the Rory i know is a cool guy, successful businessman/film producer despite giving the impression that he’s a stoner ski bum…. which he is.

i also like these because i think they would both go well with doyle and are not fussy.

you can send my prize along when ever…. no rush i know your going to be busy. ;)

e

ps: i still think oscar and inez would work well with doyle….. kinda….

Riley and Liam

Ok here’s my vote - Caitlin Olivia Doyle and Daniel Patrick Doyle, but any name you pick will be PERFECT!!!

22 Anne Frystak 05.11.07 at 9:22 am

Joe,

I talked to Kelly the other night and she told me about the impending births. Congrats to you and Stacey!

The names I like are Ellie and Finn.

Hi Anne!

Hope you and Tim are doing well. Thanks for the Kudos. I like your choices, too!
