You know what sucks?

by Joe Doyle on January 8, 2008

Reading the newspaper at night and discovering that you just missed something really cool.

Not that we could swing it with absolutely no notice and sick kids, but I bet we’d have fun.

Reminds me of the Elvis Spectacular at the House of Blues that the Doyles all went to a couple years back.

Texas Style Christmas

by Joe Doyle on December 25, 2007

What a splendid day. The sun is shining and we’re encroaching upon mid-60s, family is all about and I’m about to ride the State Park where I find respite in the woods and call my family back home.

Today is a day meant for song and rejoicing, so I wanted to post a video of my favorite: Happy Holidays Y’all by Robert Earl Keen, Jr.

REK a Texas singer-songwriter who grew up in Houston and roomed at A&M with Lyle Lovett. While I couldn’t find the above song in video, I was able to find another of his songs – the prequel to Happy Holidays y’all – called Merry Christmas from the Family. His lyrics in both are great – it’s all about the common man.

Have a great celebration today, friends.

Weekend of reflections

by Joe Doyle on December 10, 2007

– Sometimes when you blog, you realize it’s mostly about you and it feels selfish or vain.

– Even with 80º temps, all it takes is family and friends about to make you realize the holidays are here.

– Hanging Christmas lights makes me feel festive.

– Love and support from family and friends is truly the best feeling. With it, you know you can do anything.

– Deacons are not priests and they tend to ramble on, but infants don’t seem to mind.

– “I tell you what” is a phrase that everyone uses almost all the time. Just listen for it.

Christening images and more to come soon. Today we celebrate the kids first Christmas with the Ashley side. I have a feeling these kids will be spoiled.

Following this weekend I’m starting a new, healthier lifestyle push. I’m going to integrate daily workouts and new food recipes into my life, and I’m going to write about my exploits here. Support and all…

Have a great week, friends.
