Official school pictures of Katie and Patrick

by Joe Doyle on October 29, 2008

These came today. We were completely surprised as we forgot all about their school pictures until after it happened. Since we’re not big on the style, we didn’t give a second thought to it.

But luckily for us, we dressed them in nice duds on this day. We even put Katie into an original dress from Grandma Karen by coincidence. Love that. Too bad we didn’t get to haircuts or even a brushing.

Normally I’m not a fan of the staged shots – I like to see lifestyle photography. But they did a nice job so we bought a few. Racket.

If you want these in hi-res to print at your local print place, let me know. RITZ online is where I go. I think they’re the best and highly recommend them. I pick mine up local, but they will mail images to you as well.

On a side note, they say the blog is dead, and truth be told it’s been hard to find time to keep up with my online social commitments. Lots to do around the house and for Stalelife. We’re rocking the new bids right now - wish us luck!

The awesomeness that is the online social spirit

by Joe Doyle on October 22, 2008

Many people who read this blog know what an RSS feed is. If you don’t watch this quick video to see how it works (then subscribe to mine with the little orange icon).

Through my RSS feed I get blog posts from the sites I subscribe to, work and calendar notices through project management portals, Twitter searches for business – you can get almost any type of notice or news. It’s great.

Especially when someone like Ofer Wolberger, a commissioned New York photographer, uses the web with full sharing in mind (2.0, yo!). He has a series called The Photographic Project at his blog, Horses Think. The gist is simple: he posts one of his images. If you are the first to respond, he will send it to you on his dime.

A couple weeks ago, thanks to a timely reed of my RSS feed, I was quickest to draw. And now I have an original image of a cowboy on horseback in San Antonio:

I don’t exactly recall how I came about Ofer’s blog. I think it was through another photographer I follow. But I’m glad that I did. I really enjoy his images.

If you look at this through marketing glasses, there’s no better way to extend your reach for so little. All it takes is a little elbow grease and minor expenses.
