A weekend in Day-twa.

by Joe Doyle on August 27, 2007

Ever since this guy took over as the GM of the Detroit Tigers, I’ve been lucky enough to catch baseball games in Comerica Park as a guest. Always nice seats. Always treated well.

See, Dave D (the aforementioned GM) is a brother-in-law to my friend, Jeff Andrews. Jeff, Aaron Bell and I make the annual Detroit pilgrimage every year. This was our fifth.

Exciting games this weekend, we saw one Tigers loss and one win. The highlight – without a doubt – was the Curtis Granderson inside-the-park homer. This after he legged out two triples the night before. Curtis is my Tiger. Chicago native, UIC grad, does a ton for the community, apparent Yankee killer… all good.

Some images…

Aaron and Jeff enjoy the sights and sounds.

Aaron has super fast eyelids. Alas…

Sunday brought blues skies, a full house and great views of that gorgeous Detroit skyline.

Can’t get this back home.

It was great to see an old friend for an hour or so before I left. Michelle (or Cheli as I call her) and I worked together in Michigan.

BTW - some may be caught off guard by this die-hard SOX fan sporting a lid with the Olde English D. But when you think about how well the three of us are treated by the Tigers organization every year, it’s hard not for me to have a second team. So my second team is the Tigers.

And anyone who plays the Cubs.
