44 days to go.

by Joe Doyle on April 20, 2007

There’s no way it goes past 29 days. Dr. Cowan promised. And Stacey will hold his ass to it.

The most prevalent question we get is “are you ready?”
According to the scare-your-pants-off twins book I’m into, the answer is no. But is anyone ever really ready?

I mean, the house is in good shape. Corky and Karen came by last week and helped a bunch. Cribs are built. We’re fully painted. New sod and gardens are in. Hospital luggage is packed. Office almost done – new MacBook Pro as I type (oh yeah). I hear some custom-built dressers (one for each kid) are even getting a final sanding (Go Dad!)

WEEK 34 FACTS
Big milestone. Stacey can go any day now and the babies would be in decent shape (longer is better, full term is 42, I think, twins are always early).

Mom is a trooper. Lots of different and new and uncomfortable things happening. Even some fake contractions. Her body shows that the babies have “dropped”.

We took four childbirthing classes and we’re pros on “he he he who”. Repeat.
But if the boy doesn’t go for a dive, we’ll likely need a C Section anyway.

Like I said, “any day now…”
(remember that Ronnie Milsap song?)

These numbers below are eight days old. We can expect 1 lb more (on each) at next wednesday’s sono.

BOY:

• Weighs 4lbs, 10oz
• Heart rate: 133

GIRL:
• Weighs 4 lbs, 3oz
• Heart rate: 133

BINGHAM FAMILY:

hi joe, full term is only 40 weeks but no, they will not let stacey go that long even if she could. too much kid and not enough… uh, well anyway. when i think in hindsight about “readiness” my conclusion is, you can be prepared but you’ll never be ready. prepared is all the crap about the baby hardware. but the experiences in store… you can’t imagine what it’s going to be like, and no one can explain it to you. from the moment of birth on, you will not be ready for any of it, but the term will be irrelevant. you will be (permanently) in a life stage where you make it up as you go. you and stacey will, as a team. you will be in a permanent Plan B, and often Plan Z. are you comfortable with that notion? i wasn’t, but there wasn’t any choice, and i’m still here and better for it. you will discover new things about yourselves, if you ever have time to think. enough unsolicited bullshit - i wish you both lots of luck.

Yes, I’m very comfortable with that notion. Spontanious action. Life.

Let’s live it already…

Thanks, Matt. I love your take. Prepared I am.

Hey Joe / Stacey - Just in case anyone hasn’t already given you this advice - don’t listen to everything the doctors & books tell you…..they told me Macy would be 6 lbs 2 oz 4 days before she was born at 8 lbs 11 oz!!! Just be ready for anything. OH, & if noone has told you this, take some vaseline with you to the hospital & put it on the babies diaper areas with every change until all that icky meconium is out….its a lot lot easier to wipe that tar-like stuff off when the vaseline is on before hand. good luck & we’re thinking about you guys every day!

Hey - great tip, Kelly. I’ll put some in the bag.

Just saw a pic of Aaron on his new (refurbed) John Deere lawnmower. Nice. Macy looks great, too.

You sure are turning into Texas Paw, aren’t you? When you make references to country music lyrics and callin your lady “Maw”*, you might be from Texas! (I just made that up.) However, the references to the Macbook and reading balance it out.

* I know you called Stacey “Mom”, but it’s only a matter of time. The midwest misses you two!! Looking forward to Joe & Stacey Jrs.

Thanks, Amy. I bet the little ones will enjoy your company, too!

And country – I’m finding – just happens. I find myself say “I tell you what” and “I reckon” and “hey y’all”, just by living in the great state of Texas.
