Ya big (wheeled) tease.

New bike. True Fabrication SS 29er. Steel (natch). Lovely ride, but way under wraps until after the North American Hand Made Bicycle Show, where it will make its modeling debut.

I’m under agreement to hold out until next week. I’ve rode it for just three hours and now it’s in a cargo box headed to Portland for two weeks.

Tease.

More to come next Friday.

Week 5 recipe - Miso-glazed salmon

by Joe Doyle on January 31, 2008

Asian flavors are a fav in the Doyle household. So when we came across this recipe in Cooking Light, we jumped. The side dish is great, too. Plus we added lemon broccoli (lemons used during steam and juiced after).

Impressions:
Strong flavor – really took away some of the salmon taste (which is fine by me). Wasabi potatoes and lemon broccoli were a nice addition. Found out afterward that this recipe is in the “Best of Cooking Light” book.

What I added:
Wasabi paste to the miso mixture. I should have added more, I like it spicy. Also, the wasabi-mashed taters could’ve used more wasabi paste.

Nutrition:
For the fish, 10g fat, 32 g protein, 15g carbs, 297 calories. The potatoes offer sugars. We used low-fat sour cream and butter to mash.

Status:
Keeper.

Obama bo-bama, banana fanna, mo-mama

by Joe Doyle on January 30, 2008

Shepard Fairey, the famous illustrator behind the “Obey Giant” series, just created the poster you see below (with others in this set).

It’s amazing to me that so many people are stepping up to help with Barack’s campaign. Our friend Nick is designing his website (pro bono – I think it looks great, BTW). These posters were not commissioned and proceeds go to Obama’s campaign.

Seems to me that the free-thinking creative types might be on to something.

Here’s the story. Thanks to Andrew for sending it along to Stalelife.

“too great not to share”

by Joe Doyle on January 29, 2008

That’s what my friend Lindy says. And I agree.
