Happy Birthday, Grandpa Bob

by Joe Doyle on October 17, 2007

We hope you have a great day filled with many “top-down” rides in your new Jeep®.

It may be a bit cold by you in mighty Michigan…

They closed the IGA for a day.

by Joe Doyle on October 16, 2007

You know the IGA, every town has one. Grandma Doyle used to send me to the one at 91st and California whenever they had sales.

Right down the block from my house is a neat little town square that kind of reminds you of Mayberry. It has most everything you need:

IGA grocery store
• old tyme drug store
barber shop
• women’s salon
The Little Deli

On my way for lunch yesterday I noticed (what appeared to be) cranes for building. After ordering a quick sammie I found out that a film crew was using them to shoot scenes for Friday Night Lights. I don’t watch the show, but it’s filmed all over Austin.

Wonder how much they paid to take over the IGA for a day…

Blog on the run.

by Joe Doyle on October 15, 2007

Wings is the band of the day. On the humid ride to day camp (Molly dog in tow), a local station played Band on the run and I declared it Wings day. Yeah, they’re old. But so am I.

• If I expanded my daily blog roll to music, I’d never get anything done. But my partner Kurt came up with a doozy today. Check out Can You See the Sunset from the Southside. If anything, the title is cool as hell.

• The weekend was shot. Projectile vomiting started us out, then the virus spread from PJ to Katie to Me then Stacey. I think Mama Stacey had it the worst. It’s bleak times like these that really test your patience and uncover your strengths (or weakness) in communication and attitude. I’m happy to report it was a strength this weekend. The parental units teamed up and pulled through, despite nausea, body aches and just feeling miserable.

• CX is hot and heavy all over the USA. I’m not gonna be racing at all this year, quite the bummer with 16 races planned in Texas. But Chris had a great go at it this weekend up in Wisco. So did Greg.

• Speaking of blogs and social bookmarking, a friend introduced me to Google Reader. It’s a one-stop shop that gives you current posts from your favorite blogs. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a good 20 or so blogs that I read, and this will be a lifesaver. I’ll report on it later. I hope it has a widget for my iGoogle homepage.

Stay cool, people.
