Texas. FIGHT!

Texas. FIGHT!

We moved here in January of ‘06, just in time to catch UT win the National Championship. It was no big deal to us, we’re not really UT fans. But I’ve always wanted to catch a game in the stadium I see regularly on bike rides.

So when a friend (Dan Brotman) asked me to the TCU vs UT game this last weekend, I jumped. We started the day with a typical college tailgate. Footballs flying. Washers (no baggo). Beer.

But this was my first tailgate with slow-cooked brisket, loud bands, 95º heat, full sun and co-eds wearing mini skirts and cowboy boots.

TCU came out strong and was up 10-nil at the half. But UT reclaimed their winning ways and pulled out a 34-13 victory.

Dan has great seats, and when you need the instant replay, you can’t miss it on the “Godzillatron”. Incredible the size of that thing.

Look, there’s BEVO.

DOYLE twins @ day camp

by Joe Doyle on September 4, 2007

I like to call it day camp. Makes it sound more fun than day care. Day care makes me think of smelly rooms filled with screaming kids and snot and, well, I just don’t like it.

If life worked like it should, Stacey (or I) would be their primary caretakers, all day every day. Or we’d live close to a grandma and she’d help us out. Alas, we both need to work to afford this life (especially day camp), and the nearest grandma is about 200 miles away.

It was tough to leave them this morning. PJ was all smiles and very happy when he woke up. Katie too, but Patrick just had this charm about him today.

The house is eerily quiet, and I’m back to yelling at cats and the dog as my daily distractions.
