I’m hot blooded, check it and see

by Joe Doyle on September 16, 2007

I’ve got a fever of 103º.

It’s true. As I type this my head is swelling, the pressure behind my eyes is intense and this morning the remnants of Thera-Flu made it’s way back out the hole I put it down.

Symptoms started Friday. So I came up with this mathematical formula to show the path:

PJ + Day Camp + Germs = Sick PJ
Sick PJ + Dad’s consoling = Sick Dad

Ugh. Timing couldn’t be worse. I’ve got a friend in town for the ACL Festival and I won’t be able to see him. Plus I’ll miss these acts I was planning to see:
Yo La Tengo
The National
Robert Earl Keen
Common
Bloc Party
Wilco
Bob Dylan

Instead I’ll be shivering in my sheets, pulling for the Bears. I’m in a weekly pick ‘em pool (no spread). Here are my choices. Last week I went 11-5. Feel free to ridicule them:
Jags
Steelers
Bengals
Packers
Panthers
Colts
Saints
Rams
Cowboys
Lions
Cardinals
Bears
Ravens
Broncos
Chargers
Eagles

Wishing you all the best of health…

Two is two too many.

by Joe Doyle on September 12, 2007

xXx Racing was blindsided by another life-ending tragedy.

I think everyone who races understands that there is an inherent danger with bike racing, but two deaths to such a wonderful group of people – man it’s tough to swallow.

xXx member Pieter Ombregt was killed while racing the Tuesday Night Practice Crits in Matteson, IL. Details are sketchy at best as nobody saw the crash (he was apparently on a flyer). But it doesn’t really matter.

My heart goes out to all my former teammates and Pieter’s family / future wife. As I understand it, he was a transplant from Belgium and enjoyed dominating the Cat 4 races here on his was to the next level.

Rest in peace, Pieter.

Peeji Luigi

by Joe Doyle on September 11, 2007

We sometimes call PJ by the nickname “Peeji Luigi”. I dunno, maybe it’s funny to us being nowhere near Italian.

The last two nights were less than funny, though. PJ was screaming, burning up with temps of 100-103º. You couldn’t console him. You couldn’t even pick him up because he’d sound like a siren at the slightest touch.

As new parents, this freaked the crap outta us. We rushed him to the hospital when none of our own remedies would work. Lots of tests, an I.V., a shot of antibodies and a doctor’s visit later, he appears to be fine. They “think” it might have been a virus.

All I know is that the ole boy had plenty of gas and other things that would make every one of us miserable.

Welcome back to normal, Peej Luig. Now let’s get you back to that Day Camp where this whole thing likely started…
