Trooper with 31 days to go

by Joe Doyle on April 30, 2007

Many of my father friends have said “man, I’m glad I’m a dude”. I’m pretty sure I now know why.

Elbows, heads, feet – Stacey’s belly is constantly moving from active limbs poking at a way out (or so we like to think).

And while that would be weird enough, I can’t imagine being in a constant state of aches and pains and something new every day. Like having to pee constantly. I swear Stacey goes 25 times a day.

Or how about a new rash that won’t go away until the pregnancy ends. Talk about bummer.

We saw Dr. Cowan for the weekly visit last Wednesday. Kids’ hearts are still moving around 133 BPM. They were hiding again, so no real view of their features during the brief sono.

31 days to go is mis-leading – if we go 16 more the good doctor will go in after ‘em.

According to the guides…

Week: 35.5
Pre-born size: 20 in., over 5 lbs each.
Development: Babies should be done growing in length. Now they start to plump up. Boy is still facing the wrong direction, girl is squared away for birth.
Belly: How about that? Stacey looks good, gaining most of her weight straight out front.

The roses are going nuts this year. A little spring trim, a little manure and viola!

Dirt love.

by Joe Doyle on April 22, 2007

Roots and rocks and high creek crossings and nasty climbs and mud and the company of a friend from home are the absolute perfect ingredients for an epic ride.

Ken Dawson (of the Chicago Dawsons) happened upon Austin last weekend for a wedding. Lucky for us he extended his trip for some funnin’ on the way way Southside!

We rode Walnut Creek one day and the Barton Creek Green Belt the next. BCGB is one hell of a tough trail. Lots of rock gardens and techy descents. It’s fun and challenging.

Chuy’s for Tex Mex. Bats. Bikes on dirt. Lots of good convo.

Woot!

44 days to go.

by Joe Doyle on April 20, 2007

There’s no way it goes past 29 days. Dr. Cowan promised. And Stacey will hold his ass to it.

The most prevalent question we get is “are you ready?”
According to the scare-your-pants-off twins book I’m into, the answer is no. But is anyone ever really ready?

I mean, the house is in good shape. Corky and Karen came by last week and helped a bunch. Cribs are built. We’re fully painted. New sod and gardens are in. Hospital luggage is packed. Office almost done – new MacBook Pro as I type (oh yeah). I hear some custom-built dressers (one for each kid) are even getting a final sanding (Go Dad!)

WEEK 34 FACTS
Big milestone. Stacey can go any day now and the babies would be in decent shape (longer is better, full term is 42, I think, twins are always early).

Mom is a trooper. Lots of different and new and uncomfortable things happening. Even some fake contractions. Her body shows that the babies have “dropped”.

We took four childbirthing classes and we’re pros on “he he he who”. Repeat.
But if the boy doesn’t go for a dive, we’ll likely need a C Section anyway.

Like I said, “any day now…”
(remember that Ronnie Milsap song?)

These numbers below are eight days old. We can expect 1 lb more (on each) at next wednesday’s sono.

BOY:

• Weighs 4lbs, 10oz
• Heart rate: 133

GIRL:
• Weighs 4 lbs, 3oz
• Heart rate: 133

He GOOD!

by Joe Doyle on April 19, 2007

“Hey, you should watch the game. Buerhle is pitching a gem.”

Stacey opted for a nap and I got to see one of my first full games of the year. WOW, what a time to tune in.

For those living on mars, Mr. “Washed up” Buerhle found his A game and pulled off a doozie of no hitter. He hit corners, then hit other corners , made people look silly and even got revenge on Sammy by picking him off first.

No hits
1 BB
8Ks

And our friend Nick tells me that it was the first game to feature:
- No hitter (Buehrle)
- A multi-HR game (Thome)
- A grand slam (Dye)

Now if they could only do that all the time…seriously, I hope it’s the spark we need.

GO SOX!
