Week 28 p.2

by Joe Doyle on March 14, 2007

Just a quick note. Had the monthly doctor’s check up for a quick sonogram and health check. Here’s what we learned:

BOY
• Weighs 3lbs, 3oz
• Heart rate: 141

GIRL
• Weighs 2 lbs, 12oz
• Heart rate: 141

The boy’s femur is longer that the girl’s, and his foot was right by her mouth. However, she was protecting her good looks with a fist and doling out her own brand of justice by having her two feet right at his head.

Girl is head bottom, toe top. Boy is breach and pulling his knees up to his chest a bit. Kind of a ying and yang pose.

A great report, kids are developing as they should. Mom’s BP was 90 over 60. Low, by normal standards, but well within a pregnancy range.

We’ve determined that the boy is the one sitting on her bladder and crushing a nerve that makes her leg fall asleep. We’ll have to teach him a lesson when he gets out. Like no bike riding for at least a year.

Yeah, that’ll teach him.

No images, they weren’t co-operating.

Week 28 - finally!

by Joe Doyle on March 13, 2007

Sorry for the lack of pregnancy posts. We took a couple vacations and now SXSW is happening, so I’ve been busy to say the least. My work partner Kurt is on his way to town and we’re gonna figure out Stalelife Studios objectives and listen to good, live music.

Stacey is doing well. The babies sit on weird nerves, so she’ll lose feeling in her leg which is a real bummer. It’s hard for her to sit too long in certain spots and she has to sleep with five pillows just to be comfortable. She’s also B12 deficient, so she’s going for a shot every week.

I don’t know how women do it. I’m very grateful for all she’s doing for this family.

Week: 28
Pre-born size: 15″ long by now, over 2 lbs each.
Development: The babies can open their eyes — which now sport lashes — and they’ll turn their heads toward a continuous, bright light from the outside. Fat layers are beginning to form for life outside the womb, but we’ll take care of that when they’re born (ala Anna Nicole style). They seem to recognize my voice and like to kick and punch when I talk loudly at the belly.

BIG wheels.

by Joe Doyle on March 6, 2007

Still lots to do in preparation for those twins, but Stacey and I had a “babymoon” planned for Sedona Arizona. What a cool place. I’ll post more, but I wanted to get this ride report up (since my posts have been few lately).

Rented a brand new Kona Unit 2-9 (SingleSpeed 29er) from the Bike and Bean for a few hours while Stacey was getting pampered at the spa. I’ve been wanting to ride on big wheels for a while now and I loved it. They had it set up with a 32X20 gear ratio, Rock Shox Reba, 2.1 Maxxis Ignitors, Sun Tour CR18 wheels, Avid base level brakes, etc.

There are over 200 miles of trails in Sedona, I was on the south end. It was a lot of rolling hills and rocky, technical climbs – very similar to Moab. The 29er handled everything well, especially the loose turns and gradual climbs. Big wheels roll a lot better and I never even noticed I was on an SS. The rims were a bit squishy and I suffered on quick ups that I didn’t know were coming (e.g. turn a corner, hello technical 15% incline). But if I knew the trails I think it would have excelled.

About half way in I noticed the front shock lost air. As I was out for the day, I didn’t bother to return the bike, I just rode it rigid like it was 1996 or something. Back at the shop the gents told me the Reba only had two rides on it, then they decided I didn’t need to pay. Nice guys. What up Rock Shox?

So, I’m a believer and I have to say that a custom steel 29er is certainly in my future. Albeit probably a good year or two away.

Hope all is well, friends. For those who know Paolo Urizar from xXx Racing, he is now a proud papa. Nice work, pally.
