If the Bears win, we shave Auden.

by Joe Doyle on January 31, 2007

More than the SOX World Series victory in 2005. More than our softball championships (sorry Sluggers) and my big game hockey wins…more than anything, I so badly want the Bears to win the Super Bowl.

But the win will be bittersweet. In 2003 I made a deal with Aaron Bell that if the Bears went, we’d shave Auden (our all-orange boy cat) so all that was left is a big “C” on his side. I’m not looking forward to that, he’s a mean S.O.B.

Here, watch this. A friend sent it to me. Man am I getting excited.

I wonder what the Packers are doing these days?

Americans dominate CX worlds!

by Joe Doyle on January 29, 2007

Silver seems to go well with the red, black and blue kits worn by Team America in the Cyclocross World’s race. Danny Summerhill took silver in juniors, Katie Compton took silver in Elite Women and Jonathan Page took silver in Elite Men.

Funny thing is, all three of them were super close to winning it all. I’m so happy the USA had great results. It shows the rest of the world we are serious.

I found this video while searching for a telecast of yesterday’s races. This is from a couple weeks ago, an apparently dangerous course.

And you think football players are tough…

Sweet Caroline, good times never seemed so good!

Happy Belated Birthday, Neil!

As a southie from Chicago, you were pretty much raised on Neil Diamond. We heard his tunes just about everywhere, including almost every hour on the hour at Hinky Dinks tavern.

I got to see Neil open up the brand new Van Andel Arena in October of ‘96 in Grand Rapids, MI. Mel and Carrie and I had great seats. The lady next to me quiped “this is better than sex” and I couldn’t hold back from saying “maybe you’ve been having sex with the wrong people”. We laughed and had fun and were amazed at how this 55-year-old (at the time) could still shake his hips and keep his balance on the rotating stage.

Enjoy this video. He rocks! I would have posted ON his birthday, but I got some other important news (see previous post).

Week 23 – healthy and now gender specific

by Joe Doyle on January 24, 2007

When did they start using sonograms? And how did our parents make it through a pregnancy without them?

Our tech said she’d been looking at these fuzzy images for 20 years. All I know is that they’re filled with important details.

Here’s what we got so far:

Two babies. Both healthy. Brains are developing nicely. All organs accounted for. Heart functioning. Diaphragm in place. Long femurs (yeah, buddy). All sizes well within the proper range. All good news. That’s all I remember, it was just amazing to see them. Twin B was sitting in Twin A’s lap.

Week: 23
Pre-born size: Twin A weighs 14 oz. Twin B weighs 17 oz.
Development: Both are very active and have functioning stomachs. Twin A’s heart clocked in at 122 BPM, Twin B was faster at 144 BPM.

Belly:
We’re gonna bypass belly pics for sonogram shots.

Twin A is slightly smaller. Which is pretty perfect, since girls are supposed to be small.

Twin B is slightly larger. B must be for Bigger. And for Boy.

Here’s the girl on her side, looking at you.

And then the boy with the same side view.

Only 17 weeks to May 31st!
